#20 DUNCAN FERGUSON

MATCH WORN VS USA

17th MAY 1992, MILE HIGH STADIUM, DENVER

This new Umbro design made it’s competitive debut in a 1-1 draw with Bulgaria at Hampden on 27th March 1991 in a Euro 92 qualifier.  Scotland eventually won Group 2 and subsequently qualified for their first European Championships, which would take place in Sweden.

This design featured a navy collar with a white stripe, along with a white box neck with a subtle button and SFA crest.  The right sleeve also featured a white abstract motif, that was repeated in navy down the left hand side of the white shorts.

This shirt was worn by Duncan Ferguson against the USA in what was one of two warm-up games in North America, prior to Euro 92, and this first match of the two was more significantly Ferguson’s Scotland debut, who at the time was the hottest young talent in Britain at the time.

Scotland won the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from Pat Nevin, who Big Dunc came on for as a substitute after 50 minutes.  The shirt was swapped with a USA defender at the end of the match and sourced from their collection, therefore coming with impeccable provenance.
