MATCH WORN / ISSUE

This iconic check patterned shirt featured a grandad collar, which was popular on many new Umbro templates at the time.  This match worn version of the shirt features an embroidered crest with a thin black stitched edge, as well as a white embroidered Umbro logo.  It is signed by the legendary player manager of the time, Graeme Souness.

McEwan’s Lager replaced CR Smith as the shirt sponsor and rather controversially the socks were royal blue.  The check pattern also featured on the white shorts, which featured red, white and blue blocks down the sides.

Despite winning the League Cup Final in 87/88, Rangers surrendered the Scottish League title during the first season they wore this design, but won the following two titles, 88/89 and 89/90, which would be the first and second titles of their historical 9-in-a-row.
