MATCH WORN / ISSUE

Another new design was launched by Umbro for season 1982/83, and again there were some radical changes, most notably the introduction of white pin stripes on a more modern fabric, a template that was used by other top sides at the time.  Rangers also dispensed with a collar, replacing it with just a white v-neck with red and blue trim.

The RFC crest is stitched onto the shirt to the same specifications as previous, and whilst the Umbro logo is stitched there is a royal blue backing behind it rather than just being stitched directly onto the shirt.

Only worn over two seasons, the highlight was the Scottish League Cup Final win over Celtic at Hampden Park on 25th March 1984.  Ally McCoist’s hat-trick sealed a 3-2 victory over for Rangers over their fiercest rivals.

This particular shirt is believed to have been at very least used during the 1984 tour to Australia, and worn in at least the match against the Australian national side on 2nd June, when Dave McKinnon wore it.  Rangers did not line-up 1-11 that day, with Davie Cooper wearing number 17!  It was sourced via a third party who obtained the shirt from an Australian FA official.
