MATCH WORN / ISSUE

This kit was altered was slightly for Euro 96.  Firstly to conform with UEFA regulations, Scotland had to drop the purple trim with navy diamonds from the sleeves of the shirts as well as the shorts.  Sleeve patches were also added, whilst squad names and numbers and small numbers on the front of the shirt had now became standard at major tournaments.

Scotland exited the tournament on goal difference, and had they managed a second goal in their victory over Switzerland in the final group game, it would’ve been enough to proceed with England emphatically beating Holland 4-1 at the same time.  The match finished 1-0 to Scotland, and yet another glorious failure was enshrined in Scottish football folklore!

This shirt obtained through John Spencer’s agent, so comes with great provenance.
